Mission Statement
"Through the Jay Michael Suddy Scholarship Fund we assist college bound seniors with a scholarship." The Jay Michael Suddy Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization who’s mission is to aid financially disadvantage families who need assistance in caring for their children in two New England Communities. The foundation will raise funds for two primary charities: (1) The Boys and Girls Club of South Boston, and (2) the secondary educational expenses of a seniors graduating from Shead High School in Eastport, ME. History Behind the Cause
In 2005 the Boston Athletic Club’s 19th Annual roadrace was renamed the “Suddy 5-Miler as Presented by the Boston Athletic Club,” in memory and honor of Jay Michael Suddy, the BAC’s fitness director. Jay’s life was unexpectedly taken in a tragic automobile accident in March 2005. There is nothing that Jay enjoyed more than laughing and having fun; his passion for life was contagious. Raised in Eastport, ME, Jay was a graduate of Shead High School’s class of 1991 where he participated on numerous sports teams. Jay was an active member of this community in the same way he had been in the South Boston community. For the past few years, Jay was the Race Director for the annual BAC road race that helped benefit the South Boston Boys and Girls Club and was responsible for its continued success. Now, through the annual Suddy 5-Miler, Jay will bring many people from his community and others, together for a day of laughter and fun! Thus Far
Since the Jay Michael Suddy Scholarship Fund was started in 2005 the foundation has given over 10 graduating Shead seniors scholarships totaling over $10,000.00 to assist the students with educational expenses. WIth the current instability of the world around us we know the importance of a college education and will continue to support Shead students in their endeavors.
