In 2005, The Boston Athletic Club (BAC) in Boston, Massachusetts honored a friend and co-worker bynrenaming their 18-year traditional road race The Suddy 5-Miler. Jay Suddy was working at the BAC asnFitness Director when he was taken away as the result of an automobile accident in March of 2005. While Jay was at the BAC, he worked hard to execute the race and prided himself on the success of the annual event for all participants. For the Suddy 5-Miler, the BAC decided to divide the proceeds from the newly named race between The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Boston and the Jay Michael Suddy Foundation. The Foundation has awarded scholarships for the secondary education of students fromShead High School in Jay’s hometown of Eastport, Maine since 2006.

This year the race is moving to Eastport and will be held on September 11, 2010 at 9:00 am (registration starts at 8:00 am). The race will start and finish at the Suddy Field near the Eastport Fire Station. Registration fee will be $15 to run or walk. The first 150 registered runners/walkers receive a commemorative race t-shirt. For this race, all proceeds will benefit the Jay Michael Suddy Foundation. With the help from the BAC and generous donors in the previous years, over $10,000 was raised for the Foundation. We hope to continue to raise funds and award graduating students for many years to come.
